Winemaker Eugenio Palumbo ferments the hand-picked fruit in steel for about three weeks on the skins with regular pump-overs, bracketed by cold macerations before and after fermentation and using the traditional submerged-cap method. Luca Currado Vietti led the estate from the 1990s until his retirement in 2023; the Krause family bought Vietti in 2016 and have since added crus in Barolo, Barbaresco and Colli Tortonesi, and Vinous named it Winery of the Year in 2022. Castiglione is Vietti's Barolo Classico, drawn from around twenty small vineyards across the Barolo communes with vines of 10–45 years on ancient limestone and clay, Guyot-trained at 4,500 vines per hectare and picked by hand in October.
