The fruit for this wine comes from a north-facing block on Paringa Road planted in 1985, at 146 metres in the cool Red Hill sub-region, on the typical red volcanic Ferrasol soil, with vines trained on a distinctive Lyre or 'U' trellis carried on a steel frame. Hand-picked fruit was fully destemmed and cold soaked for four days before inoculation, then spent 21 days on skins in open fermenters with gentle plunging, followed by 18 months in French oak barrels, half of them new. The 2018 season brought excellent flowering, an almost perfect fruit set and consistent mild summer temperatures without heat spikes, and ranks among the estate's best vintages of the last thirty years.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eFood and drinking\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eServe at 16-18C, decanted an hour ahead.
