Four-fifths of the vineyard sits at around 300 metres on the limestone soils of the Triassic Plateau, where cool nights and good drainage lend freshness and a mineral tension, while the rest grows on the lighter sandy soils around the château. The grapes were picked in the early hours of the morning and fermented at low temperatures, each plot and variety separately with gentle daily pump-overs; the wine then spent over a year in French oak casks and a few weeks back in vat to finish blending the oak. Château de Berne was recently named in the Top 100 of The World's Best Vineyard Awards 2025.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eFood and drinking\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eServe at 16-18°C, with half an hour in a decanter to settle the oak. It suits lamb shoulder with rosemary, a slow-cooked beef daube, grilled duck breast, or a plate of hard sheep's cheese. Drinking well now and over the next three to five years.
