The IWSC awarded it the Portuguese Wine Producer of the Year Trophy in 2018, and its chief winemaker is Jaime Quendera. The vineyard sits between two nature reserves, the Tagus estuary to the north-west and the Sado to the south-west, with the Arrábida hills to the east, on the sandy soil known as Pliocenico de Pegões, laid down over millions of years by both rivers. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel followed by a long skin maceration, after which the wine spent twelve months in 225-litre second-use French and American oak barrels and four months in bottle before release.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eFood and drinking\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eServe at 16 to 18°C. Good with grilled lamb, chorizo and pork, barbecued ribs and tomato-based pasta, and it stands up to a firm sheep's cheese. Drinking now and over the next three to five years; no decanting needed.
