Chardonnay 100%.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eThe producer\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eYering Station was the first vineyard in the state of Victoria, its vines first planted in 1838 by the Scottish-born Ryrie brothers, and it remains a benchmark address for cool-climate Yarra Valley wine. The Yarra sits 45 kilometres east of Melbourne, its elevation running from 50 to 1,250 metres under the influence of the Great Dividing Range, with heavy winter and spring rainfall to carry the vines through dry, cool summers. The estate Chardonnay for this wine is all Mendoza clone, 10 to 22 years old, cane pruned and VSP trained on duplex grey loam over yellow clay, and the fruit is hand harvested; EM38 soil and canopy mapping is used each year to isolate the best blocks and even the best rows. The grapes were barrel fermented with a mix of wild and selected yeasts over 10 days, kept from malolactic conversion to hold the acidity, then racked to 500-litre French oak puncheons, 20% new, for 10 months. A wet start to the 2022 season cut yields, in some varieties by up to half, but concentrated flavour in what remained.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eFood and drinking\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eServe at 10-12C.
