ArmAs was founded by Armen Aslanyan to pick that tradition back up: 180 hectares of vineyard and orchard on the 45th parallel, on undulating terrain of complex soils, with Mount Ararat behind. The vines run from 700 to 1,900 metres above sea level, ungrafted, in soils made up of 30 layers of volcanic rock, limestone and clay; 300 days of sunshine a year ripen the fruit slowly and cool summer nights keep it fresh. Voskehat, which translates as the golden seed, is an indigenous variety whose hardy skin lets it cope with hot summers and cold winters. The grapes were hand-harvested at optimum maturity and fermented at 16 to 17C in stainless steel with selected yeasts to keep the fruit pure, then held eight months on the lees with weekly batonnage for texture and complexity, under winemaker Emilio del Medico.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eFood and drinking\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eServe at 8-10C.
