Full-flavoured and bold: sweet fruit on the palate held up by soft but abundant tannins and a long, intense finish. Malbec 100%.

The producer

Andeluna was founded in 2003 and named for the moon rising over the Andes above its 70-hectare vineyard at Gualtallary, Tupungato, 1,300 metres up in the Uco Valley. The whole vineyard was soil-mapped in 2015 and farming adapted block by block; the alluvial, sandy soils are drip-irrigated with meltwater and the canopy tightly managed to keep yields low, while the huge day-night temperature swing at this altitude gives the wine its colour and perfume. Consultant Hans Vinding-Diers works alongside the winemaking team with a minimal-intervention approach. The clusters were hand-selected, cold-soaked, then fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel at around 26°C, aged 8–12 months in French oak and rested at least six months in bottle.

Food and drinking

Good with steak, lamb, chorizo and hard cheeses.
