Block 1 is the foundation vineyard where Saint Clair first found the fruit for its flagship Wairau Reserve: a flat single site on the old Wairau flood plain, about three metres above sea level, on deep, fertile, free-draining soils, and slightly cooler than most of the valley so the fruit ripens slowly.
