Chardonnay 100%.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eThe producer\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eYering Station was the first vineyard planted in the state of Victoria, begun when the Scottish-born Ryrie brothers put vines in the ground in 1838, and it remains one of the Yarra Valley's landmark estates. The valley lies 45 kilometres east of Melbourne, cooled by the Great Dividing Range, with vineyard elevation running from 50 to 1,250 metres; the estate Chardonnay is Mendoza, P58 and I10V5 clones, five to 22 years old, cane-pruned and VSP-trained on duplex grey loam over yellow clay, and EM38 soil and canopy mapping is used to pick out the best blocks before machine and hand harvesting. The fruit was barrel-fermented on a mix of wild and selected yeasts over 10 to 14 days and held back from malolactic conversion to keep the acidity intact, then matured for nine months in 500-litre French oak puncheons, a fifth of them new. A wetter than usual start to the 2024 season cut yields, in some varieties by as much as half, but concentrated the flavour in the fruit that remained.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eFood and drinking\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eServe at 10-12°C. Good with roast chicken, grilled white fish, a creamy mushroom pasta or a young goat's cheese. Drinking well now and over the next five years; no decanting needed. Sealed with a screwcap.
