Syrah 100%.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eThe producer\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eCraggy Range was established in 1998 by Terry and Mary Peabody, who chose the land below Te Mata Peak after looking down on it from the summit, and the winery draws on estate vineyards in Hawke's Bay, Martinborough and Marlborough; it is certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand. The Gimblett Gravels lies on the old bed of the Ngaruroro River, exposed when the river changed course in 1867: small to medium greywacke stones over silt and sand to a depth of at least forty metres, absorbing sunlight by day and radiating heat back at night, draining fast and holding little water, which makes it the warmest site in Hawke's Bay while stopping short of the heat that would cost the fruit its floral character. Both hand and machine harvesting were used, the hand-picked fruit sorted and mostly destemmed with 10% kept as whole bunches, fermented with selected yeasts in open-top stainless steel tanks and oak vats, then aged fifteen months in French oak barriques of which 23% were new.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eFood and drinking\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eServe at 16-18°C.
