The Mason Road Chenin Blanc comes from the oldest vines that could be salvaged, blocks planted in 1985 and 1993 at the foot of the Du Toitskloof Pass, on granite soils with clay and quartz that hold water through the warm summer; the site climbs from 220 to 330 metres, where strong winds cut yields and cool a warm, dry district, and the trellised vines are worked and picked by hand. The 1993 block was picked in four batches at different degrees of ripeness, destemmed, gently pressed and settled overnight, then fermented in a mix of stainless steel and old French oak barrels, the final blend assembled after eleven months on the lees.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eFood and drinking\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eServe at 8-10°C.
