André Brunel took over in 1971 and expanded the estate, earning a worldwide reputation for the intensity and concentration of his wines; it is now in the hands of his son Fabrice, who has installed a new winery. The family holds 22 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and 40 in the Côtes du Rhône, farmed sustainably and HVE certified, without pesticides or herbicides, and the Bécassonne comes from a single plot particularly suited to white wine - a hill open to the gentle rising sun but screened from the strong setting sun by a pine forest, on clay over a calcareous subsoil, with vines averaging forty years and yielding 40 hectolitres per hectare, each variety picked by hand at its own optimum maturity. Each variety was then fermented separately in concrete vats at a controlled 18°C for fifteen to twenty days, blended, and matured six months in concrete.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eFood and drinking\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eServe at 10-12°C.
