Intense red-berry flavours are freshened by citrus and bright acidity. — 65% Çal Karası, 35% Kalecik Karası

The producer

Kuzubağ was founded in 2007 by father and daughter Salih and Aslı Kuzu, who planted vineyards in their home town of Çal, Denizli — known in ancient Greece as Mossyna — and waited 13 years for them to mature before building a winery set discreetly into the landscape; the first vintage was 2021. The 50 hectares sit on a plateau at 850–1,100 metres in the inner Aegean, on clay-loam and calcareous soils with day-night swings averaging 19°C, planted with 35-year-old vines pruned to very low yields and picked by hand before sunrise; 34 hectares are certified organic and the rest are in conversion. Winemaker Semril Zorlu works entirely by gravity: the grapes are direct-pressed and fermented at 15–18°C in stainless steel.

Food and drinking

Good with poultry, seafood and mezze.
