The estate near Alghero in the north-west now runs to 520 hectares and has belonged to the Terra Moretti family since 2016; it is certified by Equalitas for sustainability, with tree-lined avenues and Mediterranean scrub kept around the vines for biodiversity. The Vermentino for Cala Reale comes from the Alghero vineyard, four distinct areas of clay-ferrous and limestone soils where the salty Mistral wind and the nearby sea put the minerality into the grapes. Oenologist Giovanni Pinna sorts the fruit, gives it a cool 24-hour maceration at 10°C, ferments in stainless steel with selected yeasts, skips malolactic to keep it crisp, and rests it briefly on fine lees.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eFood and drinking\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGood with shellfish, grilled fish, salads and simple chicken or pork dishes.
