Vermentino 100%.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eThe producer\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eBanfi was founded in 1978 by the Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani, who bought land at Montalcino and, working with the winemaker Ezio Rivella, turned it into one of Italy's benchmark estates; the later purchase of the historic Piedmontese winery Bruzzone widened the range, and Banfi now holds Equalitas sustainability certification at both organisational and product level, its Brunello di Montalcino Poggio all'Oro 2016 the first Brunello to be certified. The estate appeared in the Top 100 of the World's Best Vineyard Awards 2025. La Pettegola comes off vineyards on the Tuscan coast, where sandy soils drain freely and sea breezes move through the rows to keep the fruit healthy, with a portion of the grapes drawn from Montalcino on soils of clay and pebbles that radiate warmth back into the vineyard for even ripening; the vines are trained on a top wire cordon, which opens the canopy and keeps the bunches exposed. Fermentation ran in stainless steel at 13 to 15°C and the wine then spent three months on its lees for texture, with malolactic conversion blocked to hold the freshness.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eFood and drinking\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eServe at 8 to 10°C. Good with grilled sea bass, salt cod fritters, prosciutto and melon, or a shaved fennel and herb salad.
