Why this wine
'890' is La Rioja Alta's flagship, made only in vintages the house considers worthy of it, and 2010 is widely held to be one of the finest Rioja has produced in modern times. It follows the traditional path: Tempranillo with Graciano and Mazuelo, years in American oak, then further years in bottle before release — which means it arrives ready, rather than needing another decade in a cellar. Savoury, layered, and more about texture and length than fruit. This is the classical style of Rioja at close to its highest expression.
