Description
How it tastes
Black plum compote, tobacco leaf, spice and chocolate over a pure, velvety palate. Classic, timeless Rioja. Tempranillo 95%, Graciano 3%, Mazuelo 2% — the Tempranillo and Mazuelo blended in the vineyard rather than the cellar.
The producer
Founded in Haro in 1890 by five families, whose names — Arana, Ardanza, Alberdi — still appear on the Reserva wines. The house has its own coopers building barrels from air-dried American oak on site, and racks by hand and candlelight every six months.
Food and drinking
Good with red meat, cheese and poultry & pork. Built for the long term — decades, if kept well. Serve at 16–18°C.
