Description
An intriguing and aromatic Rioja Alavesa red with fine tannins and a fresh finish.
About the Winery: Bodegas Bhilar is a boutique winery in Elvillar, Rioja Alavesa, run by David Sampedro and Melanie Hickman. They focus on terroir-driven wines, sustainable agriculture, and minimal intervention, with vineyards cultivated organically and biodynamically.
Grape Variety: 100% Tempranillo – This grape produces concentrated juice, reflecting the ancient clay and limestone soils of the vineyard, contributing to a full-bodied and elegant wine. Native to Spain and named for its early ripening (temprano), Tempranillo has thick skins, moderate-to-high tannins, and fresh acidity, giving deep color and structure. Typical notes include red and black cherry, plum, strawberry, tobacco, leather, and spice, with a strong affinity for oak that adds vanilla and clove complexity. Its balance and firm core make it ideal for long ageing, especially on limestone-rich sites like Rioja Alavesa.
