Why this wine

Santenay is overwhelmingly a red wine appellation, and white Santenay is genuinely rare — this estate is 60% white varieties, an exception in the area, built by buying back historic white vineyards abandoned for close to a century. Barrel-fermented on its lees, mineral and saline from stony south-facing ground.

Description

How it tastes

Opulent and saline with a mineral edge and a hint of liquorice, rich and creamy through a lingering finish. The same plot as the 2018, one vintage earlier.

The producer

Hervé Olivier rebuilt this estate by acquiring old Santenay vineyards that had been abandoned for almost a century, paying particular attention to plots historically known for white wine — a rarity in a predominantly red appellation.
