2017 Santenay ‘Les Coteaux sous la Roche’, Antoine Olivier
About the Winery: Domaine Antoine Olivier is a respected family estate based in Santenay, producing elegant, terroir-focused wines from the Côte de Beaune. The domaine farms sustainably across a mosaic of limestone and clay-rich parcels, many of which sit on steep, well-drained slopes. ‘Les Coteaux sous la Roche’ is one of the estate’s notable lieux-dits, positioned beneath rocky outcrops that provide excellent drainage and cool exposures, giving Pinot Noir of finesse, purity and mineral-driven structure.
Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir
Appearance: Medium ruby with garnet reflections, showing early development while maintaining brightness and clarity.
Aroma: Red cherry, raspberry and pomegranate layered with violets, dried herbs, subtle earthiness and hints of spice. Delicate notes of forest floor and mineral tension emerge with aeration, typical of Santenay’s stony slopes.
Palate: Elegant and finely balanced, offering red fruit purity alongside savoury depth. Silky tannins frame flavours of cherry, cranberry and subtle oak spice. A mineral edge and fresh acidity drive a long, harmonious finish that reflects the limestone-rich terroir of the site.
Body: Medium-bodied with refined texture and gentle structural grip.
Acidity: Medium to high — providing lift, precision and age-worthy structure.
Cellaring Potential: Drink now or age for 4–6 more years; developing further savoury, earthy complexity and softer, more integrated tannins while retaining elegance.
Perfect Pairing: Roast duck, mushroom risotto, charcuterie, grilled salmon, game birds, herb-crusted pork and soft cheeses. Its balance of freshness and savoury Pinot structure makes it highly food-friendly.
Serving Temperature: 14–16°C to highlight aromatic delicacy, structure and purity of fruit.
