2018 Chardonnay, G.P.S. Series, Kershaw Wines
About the Winery: Kershaw Wines was founded by acclaimed Master of Wine Richard Kershaw, whose focus on precision, cool-climate viticulture and site-specific winemaking has established the estate as one of South Africa’s leading producers of Chardonnay and Syrah. The G.P.S. (Geographic Parcel Selection) Series highlights exceptional small parcels from Elgin and other cool sites, chosen for their distinctive soil profiles and microclimates. The Chardonnay bottlings from this range emphasise purity, mineral tension and Burgundian-inspired elegance, reflecting meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay
Appearance: Pale gold with bright clarity and subtle green reflections, reflecting cool-climate origins and carefully judged maturation.
Aroma: Refined and expressive, showing lemon curd, green apple and white peach layered with brioche, toasted hazelnut, flinty minerality and delicate spice. Subtle floral notes of acacia and citrus blossom contribute elegance and lift.
Palate: Precise, vibrant and mineral-driven with flavours of citrus, ripe apple and stone fruit supported by lively acidity. Creamy texture from French oak is beautifully integrated, adding depth without overshadowing freshness. A long, focused finish reveals saline minerality and cool-climate tension that are signatures of Kershaw’s style.
Body: Medium-bodied with refined weight and a polished, elegant mouthfeel.
Acidity: Medium to high — crisp, bright and essential to the wine’s balance and age-worthiness.
Cellaring Potential: 5–8 years; developing further complexity, deeper nutty tones, savoury minerality and a more layered texture with age.
Perfect Pairing: Lobster, scallops, roast chicken, creamy pasta, truffle dishes, grilled fish, wild mushrooms and soft cheeses. Its balance of precision and richness makes it suitable for both classic and refined cuisine.
Serving Temperature: 10–12°C to highlight aromatic detail, texture and mineral tension.
