Description

2018 Santenay ‘Les Coteaux sous la Roche’, Antoine Olivier

About the Winery: Domaine Antoine Olivier is a respected family estate in Santenay, known for terroir-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the southern Côte de Beaune. Working sustainably across a mosaic of limestone and clay-based parcels, the domaine focuses on precision, purity and expressing the nuances of each lieu-dit. ‘Les Coteaux sous la Roche’ sits beneath rocky limestone outcrops, giving naturally low-yielding fruit with aromatic lift, mineral drive and refined tannin structure — characteristics that shine particularly well in warmer years like 2018.

Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir

Appearance: Medium ruby with garnet edges, showing slight evolution while retaining bright, youthful core colour typical of 2018’s concentrated fruit.

Aroma: Ripe red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry with lifted floral notes, dried herbs and gentle earthiness. Warmer-vintage generosity brings hints of baking spice, subtle oak and fragrant forest floor complexity.

Palate: Supple, expressive and beautifully balanced. Juicy red fruits blend with savoury undertones and fine, silky tannins. A streak of limestone minerality adds tension, ensuring freshness despite the vintage’s natural richness. The finish is long, elegant and softly spiced, reflecting both site and season harmoniously.

Body: Medium-bodied with a rounded, velvety texture and refined structural grip.

Acidity: Medium — softer than cooler years, but still providing balance, lift and tension from the limestone terroir.

Cellaring Potential: Drink now or cellar 4–6 more years; will develop deeper savoury complexity, earthiness and integrated spice notes while retaining red fruit elegance.

Perfect Pairing: Roast duck, pork tenderloin, mushroom dishes, grilled salmon, charcuterie, game birds and soft cheeses. Its combination of roundness and minerality makes it versatile across both white and red meat dishes.

Serving Temperature: 14–16°C for optimal aromatic expression and balance.
