2019 Matías Riccitelli ‘Old Vines From Patagonia’ Torrontés, Matías Riccitelli
About the Winery: Based in Mendoza and now extending into the far south of Río Negro, Matías Riccitelli is one of Argentina’s most dynamic modern winemakers. His ‘Old Vines From Patagonia’ series sources fruit from historic, ungrafted vineyards planted over 50 years ago in the cold Patagonian desert. Low-yielding bush vines rooted in sandy, alluvial soils give Torrontés of exceptional purity, aromatic lift and mineral tension, far more refined and subtle than the typical north-Argentine style. Riccitelli’s minimal-intervention approach emphasises texture, elegance and regional authenticity.
Grape Variety: 100% Torrontés (Old Vine Patagonia Selection)
Appearance: Pale straw with silvery highlights, bright and crystalline, showing cool-climate freshness and delicate extraction from old vines.
Aroma: Highly expressive yet refined, with white peach, jasmine, orange blossom and fresh lychee layered over crushed stone, citrus peel and subtle herbal notes. A more mineral, floral profile than the classic aromatic Torrontés of Salta.
Palate: Fresh, textural and beautifully balanced, featuring flavours of citrus zest, peach and pear with a delicate exotic character. Crisp acidity and a saline, mineral backbone drive a long, elegant finish. This is Torrontés in a cooler-climate, terroir-driven style: vibrant, dry and exquisitely poised.
Body: Light to medium-bodied with a smooth, gently waxy texture from old-vine concentration.
Acidity: Medium to high — energetic, refreshing and essential to the wine’s lifted, mineral style.
Cellaring Potential: 2–4 years; developing added texture, light honey notes and deeper floral complexity while retaining freshness.
Perfect Pairing: Ideal with ceviche, grilled prawns, sushi, Vietnamese dishes, light curries, fresh goat cheese, salads with citrus and aromatic herbs. Its floral lift and acidity make it exceptionally versatile with fresh, vibrant cuisine.
Serving Temperature: 8–10°C to highlight aromatics, purity and minerality.
