Description

Rich, savoury and cool-climate Syrah ‚¬” juicy plum, oak spice and white pepper with refined balance, freshness and long, elegant texture.

About the Winery: Established in 1999, Lomond Wine Estate lies eight kilometres from the southernmost tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans converge. Taking its name from Ben Lomond Mountain in the Uilenkraal Valley, the estate is surrounded by indigenous ‚Fynbos flora and is renowned for its single-vineyard wines. Cellarmaster Anne van Heerden crafts each wine with precision, drawing on 18 distinct soil types that create intriguingly complex flavour profiles. Lomond is sustainably certified under IPW and is a member of WIETA, the Walker Bay Conservancy and the World Wildlife Champion programme, ensuring environmental and ethical excellence.

Grape Variety: 100% Syrah

Appearance: Deep ruby with violet reflections and bright clarity.

Aroma: Perfumed and intense with plum, oak spice and white pepper enhanced by subtle herbal and earthy nuances from the sea-cooled vineyards.

Palate: A rich, juicy Syrah showing fine balance and elegance. Hand-picked and sorted grapes were fermented at controlled temperatures (up to 27 °C) with hand punch-downs and three weeks on skins for depth and colour. Matured 18 months in first- and second-fill French oak barrels to build silky texture and complex spice. The result is a harmonious Syrah of cool-climate freshness, minerality and length.

Body: Full ‚ structured yet supple with fine, integrated tannins.

Acidity: Medium ‚ adding lift and freshness to the ripe fruit core.

Cellaring Potential: Enjoy now for its vibrancy or cellar to 2030 for added complexity and spice integration.

Perfect Pairing: Ideal with pepper-crusted steak, venison raga¹ or roasted vegetables with thyme and olive oil.

Serving Temperature: 16‚18 °C
