2019 Mazys-Chambertin Grand Cru, Domaine Pierre Naigeon
About the Winery: Domaine Pierre Naigeon, based in Gevrey-Chambertin, is renowned for its meticulous vineyard work, minimal-intervention philosophy and deep respect for terroir. With over 50 individual parcels and an emphasis on old-vine material, the domaine vinifies with native yeasts, gravity-flow handling and minimal sulphur to preserve purity and site expression. Mazys-Chambertin (also spelled Mazy-Chambertin) is one of Gevrey’s most powerful and prestigious Grand Crus, known for combining muscular structure with aromatic finesse. Naigeon’s bottling highlights the vineyard’s depth, tension and exceptional ageing potential.
Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir
Appearance: Deep, glowing ruby with fine translucence and a refined, youthful rim—concentrated yet elegant.
Aroma: Intense black cherry, blackberry and raspberry layered with violets, rose petal, earth, graphite, sweet spice and subtle game notes. Complex, lifted and unmistakably Grand Cru in aromatic depth.
Palate: Powerful yet supremely refined, with concentrated dark fruit, firm but velvety tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish. Displays the structure of Gevrey-Chambertin with the aromatic grace typical of Mazys-Chambertin’s upper parcels. Layered, persistent and beautifully balanced.
Body: Medium to full-bodied with grand cru depth and precision.
Acidity: Medium to high, offering lift, tension and long-term cellaring capacity.
Cellaring Potential: Exceptional—cellar 15–25+ years for full development of tertiary complexity, savoury depth and silky integration.
Perfect Pairing: Roast duck, venison, beef fillet, truffle dishes, mushroom ragù, and aged soft cheeses such as Époisses or Délice de Bourgogne.
Serving Temperature: 15–16°C; decant 1–2 hours in youth to open aromatics and refine texture.
