Why this wine

Cote-Rotie is the northern Rhone's steepest and most celebrated hill, terraced so severely it must be worked by hand. This is the older of the two vintages here, with bottle age already working. Peppery, floral Syrah built for the long term.

Description

How it tastes

Power and elegance together — pure, deep red fruit from old vines supported by spice, beautifully structured on the palate.

The producer

Maison Rouge is named for a small red house at the foot of an impressively steep registered plot. The Vernay estate covers 22 hectares across the northern Rhône's steepest terraced slopes.

Food and drinking

Good with red meat, poultry & pork and cheese. Built for the long term — decades, if kept well. Serve at 16–18°C.
