2021 Chardonnay Banghoek Reserve, Delaire Graff
About the Winery: Delaire Graff Estate, perched on the Helshoogte Pass overlooking Stellenbosch, is renowned for its luxury hospitality, precision viticulture and expressive, terroir-reflective wines. The Banghoek Reserve Chardonnay is sourced from high-altitude vineyards in the cool Banghoek Valley, where mountain breezes and decomposed granite soils produce fruit of exceptional purity and concentration. Meticulous hand selection, barrel fermentation and judicious use of French oak create a Chardonnay of elegance, texture and refined South African intensity.
Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay
Appearance: Bright lemon-gold with green reflections and excellent clarity, suggesting both ripeness and cool-climate freshness from elevated vineyards.
Aroma: Ripe citrus, white peach and baked apple layered with notes of toasted hazelnut, vanilla, brioche and subtle flint. Hints of honeysuckle and spice add further complexity from barrel ageing and lees contact.
Palate: Full-flavoured, elegant and finely structured with vibrant acidity balancing generous fruit. Flavours of lemon curd, pear and stone fruit integrate seamlessly with creamy oak and savoury mineral undertones. A long, polished finish reflects the purity and precision of the Banghoek Valley’s cool mountain terroir.
Body: Medium to full-bodied with a rich, creamy yet focused texture.
Acidity: Medium to high — providing tension, lift and excellent ageing potential.
Cellaring Potential: 5–8 years; gaining nutty complexity, deeper texture and enhanced savoury-mineral depth with age.
Perfect Pairing: Butter-poached lobster, roast chicken, seared scallops, mushroom risotto, creamy pasta dishes, smoked trout and soft-ripened cheeses. The wine’s balance of richness and acidity makes it versatile across refined seafood and white meat dishes.
Serving Temperature: 10–12°C to highlight aromatics, texture and mineral precision.
