2021 Emilio Rojo, Alma Carraovejas
About the Winery: Emilio Rojo is one of Spain’s most iconic white wines, crafted from a tiny, terraced vineyard in Ribeiro. Now stewarded by Alma Carraovejas, the project continues the pioneering vision of Emilio Rojo himself: artisanal viticulture, biodiversity, and meticulous care of each individual vine. The estate farms organically and biodynamically, producing a field blend that reflects the ancient mosaic of local varieties. In 2021, the wine maintains its hallmark purity, precision and quiet power, expressing the unique terroir of the Avia Valley with extraordinary finesse.
Grape Variety: Traditional Ribeiro field blend dominated by Treixadura, with Godello, Albariño, Loureira and Lado (approximate composition)
Appearance: Pale straw with green reflections, bright and crystalline, showing youthful vibrancy and purity of expression.
Aroma: Highly aromatic yet refined, offering notes of white flowers, pear, citrus zest and stone fruit, intertwined with fresh herbs, crushed river stones and subtle Atlantic salinity. Layers of fennel, jasmine and gentle spice emerge with air, reflecting the vineyard’s biodiversity and complexity.
Palate: Elegant, linear and beautifully textured. Vibrant acidity drives flavours of lemon peel, green apple, peach skin and subtle herbal tones. A distinctive mineral core, shaped by granite and schist soils, provides tension and depth. The finish is long, saline and remarkably poised — a signature of the Emilio Rojo style.
Body: Light to medium-bodied with a fine, silky texture and quiet concentration.
Acidity: Medium to high — vibrant, driving and essential to the wine’s precision and longevity.
Cellaring Potential: 8–12 years; gaining complexity with notes of honey, lanolin, chamomile and deeper mineral nuance while retaining freshness and definition.
Perfect Pairing: Ideal with shellfish, hake, turbot, sushi, Galician octopus, roasted vegetables, herb-led dishes and soft cheeses. Its balance of elegance, salinity and mineral drive makes it exceptionally food friendly.
Serving Temperature: 10–12°C to highlight aromatic finesse, freshness and mineral clarity.
