2021 Ladoix Blanc ‘Le Clos Royer’, Domaine Michel Mallard
About the Winery: Domaine Michel Mallard is based in Ladoix-Serrigny at the foot of the Corton hill, where the Mallard family has cultivated vineyards for generations. Known for classical, terroir-driven Burgundy, the domaine focuses on precise viticulture and careful élevage to highlight the mineral purity characteristic of the northern Côte de Beaune. ‘Le Clos Royer’ is a well-situated, limestone-rich parcel that consistently produces refined, vibrant Chardonnay with exceptional balance and tension.
Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay
Appearance: Pale lemon with green reflections and bright, crystalline clarity, typical of a cool, limestone-based terroir.
Aroma: Fresh citrus, white peach and pear complemented by acacia blossom, hints of almond, and a fine chalky-mineral note. Subtle lees tones add depth without overt oak influence, reflecting a restrained and elegant style.
Palate: Clean, refined and delicately textured with crisp acidity driving flavours of lemon, orchard fruit and subtle floral notes. A precise mineral backbone adds structure, while gentle creaminess from maturation brings harmony. The finish is long, pure and subtly saline, showcasing Ladoix’s finesse and stony terroir signature.
Body: Light to medium-bodied with a smooth, elegant texture and refined weight.
Acidity: Medium to high — bright, linear and essential to the wine’s tension and longevity.
Cellaring Potential: 4–6 years; developing nutty complexity, deeper texture and enhanced mineral definition while retaining freshness and elegance.
Perfect Pairing: Ideal with grilled white fish, shellfish, roast chicken, creamy pastas, vegetable tarts, goat cheese and light risottos. Its vibrancy and mineral precision pair beautifully with refined cuisine.
Serving Temperature: 10–12°C to highlight its delicate aromatics, mineral lift and refined structure.
