About the Winery: Groot Constantia is South Africa's oldest wine estate, established in 1685 by Cape Governor Simon van der Stel in the foothills of Table Mountain. The estate quickly gained international acclaim, with admirers including Napoleon, Bismarck, and King Louis Philippe of France, who became its largest single buyer. Today, Groot Constantia remains one of the country's most iconic and visited wine destinations. The 165-hectare estate, owned by the Groot Constantia Trust, has 87 hectares under vine, planted between 60 and 280 metres above sea level. It is certified by the *Integrated Production of Wine (IPW)* scheme and cultivated sustainably. The cool, maritime climate of Constantia produces wines of balance, complexity, and freshness.

Vineyard: The vines are planted on south to southeast-facing slopes across Constantia's diverse soils, including Glenrosa, Clovelly, Avalon, Hutton, and Cartref soil's ranging from loamy granite and red clay to weathered sandstone. Vineyard altitudes vary from 39 to 160 metres above sea level. Constantia's Mediterranean climate, influenced by cooling Atlantic Ocean breezes, ensures slow ripening and natural balance. Sustainable vineyard management employs biological pest control, hand cultivation, and winter cover crops to improve soil structure and biodiversity.

Winemaking: Grapes were hand-harvested from multiple vineyard blocks, each vinified separately. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts and regular pump-overs to achieve balanced extraction. After fermentation, each component matured individually for 12 months in French oak barrels 10% new, 35% second fill, 35% third fill, and 20% fourth fill ‚¬” before blending and bottling. This meticulous oak management adds complexity while preserving fruit purity.
