Description

Vivid and textural, this elegant Mission red reveals wild notes of rosehip, rhubarb, mint, and spicy black fruit layered over a refined, savoury finish.

About the Winery: Founded in 2007 by brothers Andrew and Adam Mariani, Scribe Winery produces vibrant, terroir-driven wines from Sonoma, California. The winery occupies a historic estate that pioneered pre-Prohibition winemaking in Sonoma Valley. The Marianis ‚¬” fourth-generation California farmers ‚¬” believe in cultivating vineyards in harmony with their ecosystem to produce expressive, site-specific wines. Their philosophy of minimal intervention and respect for the land results in wines that vividly reflect their provenance.

Grape Variety: 100% Mission ‚ grown on the southwest-facing slope of Arrowhead Mountain in the southern Mayacamas volcanic range. The vines, planted in 2017 from cuttings dating back to the 1880s in Central California, pay homage to the earliest days of Californian viticulture. The Mission grape was the first European variety cultivated in California and thrived at the Scribe estate in the 1800s. Reintroduced here in front of the Hacienda, these sustainably farmed vines cover just 0.8 hectares and are hand-harvested at night to preserve freshness and aromatic complexity.

Appearance: Bright ruby with a translucent edge, reflecting purity and restraint.

Aroma: Wild and aromatic, with rosehip, rhubarb, mint, and hints of black cherry and pepper spice.

Palate: Textural and energetic, delivering flavours of spiced black fruit, rose petals, and herbs. Fermented in small stainless-steel lots with 50% whole clusters and native yeasts, the wine underwent 22 days of maceration before ageing eight months in neutral oak barrels. Bottled unfined and gently filtered, it offers purity, lightness, and minerality in equal measure.

Body: Medium-bodied, silky, and poised with subtle structure.

Acidity: Fresh and lifted, balancing the natural sweetness of fruit and spice.

Cellaring Potential: Drink now or cellar for 5‚6 years to enhance complexity and savoury nuances.

Perfect Pairing: Ideal with roasted duck breast, charcuterie, or grilled vegetables with balsamic glaze.

Serving Temperature: Serve at 15‚17°C to accentuate aromatic delicacy and texture.
