Why this wine

Mission is the grape Spanish missionaries brought to California in the eighteenth century, essentially abandoned since. Scribe revived it. Pale, light and faintly wild at 11.3% alcohol. A historical curiosity you can actually drink.

Description

How it tastes

Rosehip, rhubarb and delicate mint with bright, spicy black fruit over a textured palate. Small lots fermented separately with 50% whole clusters.

The producer

Mission is the grape Spanish missionaries brought to California and almost nobody grows now. Scribe planted it on a southwest-facing slope of Arrowhead Mountain in the Mayacamas. The winery was founded in 2007 on a property that helped pioneer pre-Prohibition Sonoma.
