2021 Riesling Grand Cru Schlossberg, Trimbach

 

About the Winery: Founded in 1626, Trimbach is one of Alsace’s most iconic and historic wine estates, long renowned for its dry, age-worthy Rieslings of precision, purity and mineral depth. The Grand Cru Schlossberg vineyard, rising steeply above Kaysersberg, is planted on weathered granite soils that produce Riesling of exceptional tension, aromatic clarity and longevity. Trimbach’s minimalist, rigorous winemaking allows the vineyard’s crystalline minerality and cool-climate definition to take centre stage in this superb expression of the 2021 vintage.

 

Grape Variety: 100% Riesling

 

Appearance: Pale lemon with silvery-green reflections, brilliant and transparent, signalling youth, purity and granite-driven tension.

 

Aroma: Intensely aromatic yet refined, with notes of lime peel, green apple and white peach layered over jasmine, crushed granite, wet stone and subtle herbal nuances. The bouquet is lifted, precise and unmistakably Schlossberg in its mineral signature.

 

Palate: Linear, vibrant and tightly focused with electric acidity supporting flavours of citrus, green apple, pear and delicate stone fruit. A fine phenolic structure and palpable granite minerality run through the mid-palate, leading to a long, crystalline, dry finish. A classic, age-worthy expression of Grand Cru Riesling built on purity, energy and precision.

 

Body: Light to medium-bodied with a racy, streamlined texture and mineral tension.

 

Acidity: High — vibrant, incisive and essential to the wine’s structure, purity and ageing capability.

 

Cellaring Potential: 10–15 years; developing complex notes of honey, lanolin, dried citrus, petrol and deeper mineral layers while retaining freshness and spine.

 

Perfect Pairing: Ideal with raw or grilled shellfish, sushi and sashimi, ceviche, smoked fish, bright salads, pork dishes, Alsatian cuisine, soft cheeses and lightly spiced Asian dishes. Its tension and precision make it extremely versatile with seafood and aromatic dishes.

 

Serving Temperature: 8–10°C to fully express clarity, aromatic lift and mineral focus.
