Complex and savoury, this Rosso di Montalcino reveals ripe cherry and blackberry layered with liquorice, tobacco, and spice, carried by fine tannins and a long, elegant finish.

About the Winery: Established in 1978 by Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani, Banfi represents a pioneering fusion of winemaking passion and technological innovation. Working alongside the renowned oenologist Ezio Rivella, they transformed the Montalcino landscape into one of Italyof most advanced and quality-driven viticultural zones. Banfi has since expanded to include the historic Piedmontese winery Bruzzone. The estate is a leader in sustainability and was the first to achieve Equalitas certification for both its organisation and select wines ‚¬” including the celebrated Brunello di Montalcino Poggio all‚¬™Oro 2016. Today, Banfi continues to blend innovation, heritage, and environmental respect in crafting expressive Tuscan wines.

Grape Variety: 100% Sangiovese ‚ from internally selected clones dating back to 1982, planted on hillside vineyards characterised by reddish continental and clay sediments with stones and pebbles for excellent drainage. The vineyards, trained in spur cordon and Banfiof proprietary *Albarello* (Gobelet) system, have a vine density of 4,200‚5,500 vines per hectare and yield 70‚75 quintals per hectare. This terroir and viticulture balance structure and aromatic expression.

Vintage: The 2022 growing season began with a harsh winter and limited rainfall, followed by a warm, dry spring and hot summer. Early harvesting preserved varietal aromatics and natural acidity while delivering excellent structure and ripeness.

Winemaking: Fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks (25‚30°C), followed by ageing for 12 months in a combination of large French oak casks (90‚60 hL) and 350 L French barriques (30% new). This dual maturation enhances both freshness and complexity, combining fruit vibrancy with subtle oak integration.

Appearance: Deep ruby red with vivid garnet hues and brilliant clarity.

Aroma: Complex bouquet of ripe cherry and blackberry framed by hints of liquorice, tobacco, and subtle spice.

Palate: Fresh, structured, and balanced, with layers of fruit and spice unfolding over polished tannins. The finish is broad, savoury, and persistent, showcasing Montalcinoof signature elegance and depth.

Body: Medium to full-bodied with rounded tannins and smooth texture.

Acidity: Balanced and fresh, supporting aromatic lift and longevity.

Cellaring Potential: Enjoy now or cellar for 6‚8 years to gain further depth and savoury complexity.

Perfect Pairing: Excellent with roast lamb, grilled Tuscan sausages, or pasta with porcini mushrooms and truffle oil.

Serving Temperature: Serve at 16‚18°C to highlight fruit purity and balance.
