2022 Sauvignon Blanc, Kekerengu Coast, Astrolabe
About the Winery: Astrolabe is one of Marlborough’s most celebrated boutique producers, founded by winemaker Simon Waghorn and known for its precise, site-specific expressions of Sauvignon Blanc. The Kekerengu Coast is the southernmost and coolest subregion Astrolabe crafts wine from, defined by limestone-rich soils, coastal winds and long, slow ripening. These conditions produce Sauvignon Blanc of exceptional tension, minerality and aromatic purity — a truly distinctive maritime-driven style within New Zealand’s world-famous Sauvignon profile.
Grape Variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Appearance: Pale straw with green highlights and crystalline brightness, reflecting freshness and cool-climate acidity.
Aroma: Intensely aromatic with lifted notes of grapefruit, lime zest and passionfruit alongside fresh-cut herbs, tomato leaf, white florals and a distinctive flinty, coastal mineral tone.
Palate: Vibrant, zesty and finely etched with citrus, gooseberry and tropical hints balanced by saline minerality. Crisp acidity provides tension and drive, leading to a long, pure, mouth-watering finish with subtle herbal complexity.
Body: Light to medium-bodied with a sleek, refreshing profile.
Acidity: High, delivering precision, lift and energetic coastal tension.
Cellaring Potential: Best enjoyed young for vibrancy, though capable of developing subtle toast, lanolin and soft herbal complexity over 2–3 years.
Perfect Pairing: Fresh oysters, ceviche, sushi, goat cheese salad, grilled prawns, green curries and crisp vegetable dishes. Its bright acidity and salinity complement seafood and zesty flavours perfectly.
Serving Temperature: 8–10°C to preserve aromatic lift, precision and coastal freshness.
