2022 Arriscado, Cuentaviñas
About the Winery: Cuentaviñas is a boutique Rioja winery founded by winemaker Arturo de Miguel, dedicated to crafting expressive, site-specific wines from old vines across Rioja Alavesa. The estate’s philosophy centres on minimal intervention, precise vineyard selection and a deep respect for historical terroirs. ‘Arriscado’ is sourced from high-altitude, low-yielding parcels planted on limestone and clay, resulting in a wine that captures purity, tension and the unique storytelling character that defines Cuentaviñas.
Grape Variety: 100% Tempranillo (high-altitude old-vine selection)
Appearance: Deep ruby with violet edges, showing brightness and clarity indicative of cool nights and slow ripening in Rioja Alavesa’s hilltop vineyards.
Aroma: Highly aromatic with notes of black cherry, red plum and wild strawberry intertwined with violets, rosemary, stony minerality and subtle spice from well-judged oak. Lifted and pure, with an elegant floral backbone.
Palate: Silky, fresh and beautifully balanced. Juicy red and black fruits meet fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity, giving precision and length. Mineral tension and savoury undertones lead into a long, focused finish, showcasing the finesse and energy characteristic of Cuentaviñas’ single-site expressions.
Body: Medium-bodied with an elegant, streamlined texture.
Acidity: Medium to high — giving lift, precision and outstanding food versatility.
Cellaring Potential: 6–8 years; developing deeper savoury complexity, spice and floral nuance while retaining freshness and linearity.
Perfect Pairing: Ideal with lamb chops, Iberico pork, grilled vegetables, mushroom dishes, charcuterie and aged Manchego. Its finesse and freshness make it suitable for both rustic and refined cuisine.
Serving Temperature: 15–17°C to highlight aromatic lift, textural elegance and mineral precision.
