2022 Chardonnay, Stargazer
About the Winery: Stargazer is an artisanal Tasmanian winery founded by winemaker Samantha Connew, celebrated for crafting elegant, precise wines shaped by Tasmania’s cool maritime climate. Fruit is sourced from select vineyards in the Coal River Valley and Derwent Valley, where long growing seasons, ancient soils and ocean breezes contribute exceptional purity and tension. The Chardonnay is crafted with minimal intervention, wild fermentation and sensitive oak handling, resulting in a wine of finesse, texture and cool-climate precision.
Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay
Appearance: Pale lemon with green highlights and bright luminosity, characteristic of Tasmania’s crisp, cool climate fruit.
Aroma: Lifted notes of white peach, citrus blossom and lemon zest intertwined with flinty reduction, wet stone, toasted hazelnut and delicate spice. Subtle floral tones and cool-climate minerality add further complexity.
Palate: Elegant, taut and finely textured. Bright acidity frames flavours of citrus, green apple and stone fruit, supported by gentle creaminess from lees ageing. A linear mineral backbone drives the wine toward a long, saline, beautifully balanced finish — combining restraint with quiet power.
Body: Light to medium-bodied with a sleek, refined texture and subtle richness.
Acidity: Medium to high — vibrant, crisp and essential to the wine’s precision and longevity.
Cellaring Potential: 5–7 years; gaining texture, nutty complexity and deeper mineral nuance while retaining freshness.
Perfect Pairing: Ideal with oysters, grilled fish, scallops, sushi, roast chicken, creamy pasta, fresh cheeses and delicately spiced dishes. Its precision and saline tension pair beautifully with coastal cuisine and elegant white meat dishes.
Serving Temperature: 10–12°C to emphasise purity, mineral drive and aromatic lift.
