Description
A gentle and graceful Pinot Noir showing vanilla, violets and pink peppercorns together with notes of pomegranate, blueberries and a soft earthiness.
About the Winery: Founded by Tim and Judy Finn (now retired) in 1978 who were pioneers of the Nelson wine industry and Tim Finn was a founding member of Sustainable Winegrowing NZ. Their daughter Rosie Finn carries on the family tradition in the role of Sales & Marketing/Director together with winemaker/GM Todd Stevens and viticulturalist Stef Brockley. The focus is on sustainability with the winery run on solar power aided by the fact that Nelson has some of the longest sunshine hours in New Zealand. All estate owned blocks are organically certified and the old vines are dry farmed. All wines are bottled in lightweight glass.
Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir - elegant and age-worthy with red cherry and forest floor. Organically certified, dry-farmed estate fruit from Nelson, NZ; hand-picked and gently handled to preserve purity; matured in French oak (a small portion new) to frame, not dominate, the fruit.
Appearance: Translucent ruby with a hint of garnet at the rim; bright clarity and fine, slow-moving legs.
Aroma: Vanilla, violets, pink peppercorns, pomegranate, blueberries, with subtle clove and cedar nuances.
Palate: Fine, cocoa-like tannins tie this wine together with elegance and purity. Seductive, brooding, earthy, visceral nuances throughout. Autumnal and crunchy which keeps it refreshing and restrained, with a long, silky, mineral-tinged finish.
Body: Medium - A gentle and graceful Pinot Noir with a svelte stature.
Acidity: Medium - The wine has a soft acidity that contributes to its refreshing and restrained character.
Cellaring Potential: Medium (5–10 yrs) - A season producing wines of elegance, rather svelte in stature, and approachable.
Perfect Pairing: Poultry, Cheese, Red Meat (e.g., duck confit, mushroom risotto, roast chicken, charcuterie, grilled salmon, lamb cutlets, aged gouda).
Serving Temperature: 15–16°C for reds; serve in Burgundy stems; a brief 15–20 minute chill in warm weather enhances freshness.
