Description

2022 Saffredi, Fattoria Le Pupille

About the Winery: Fattoria Le Pupille, founded by Elisabetta Geppetti in the heart of Tuscany’s Maremma region, is one of Italy’s most celebrated and visionary estates. Saffredi, often described as the “Lafite of Tuscany,” is the flagship wine—crafted from meticulously tended hillside vineyards overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. With a philosophy rooted in precision viticulture, low yields and uncompromising attention to quality, Le Pupille consistently produces wines of power, elegance and iconic stature.

Grape Variety: Primarily Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Petit Verdot (exact proportions vary by vintage)

Appearance: Deep, opaque ruby with violet highlights and exceptional concentration.

Aroma: Blackcurrant, blackberry and plum intertwined with violets, graphite, cedar, sweet spice, cocoa and Mediterranean herbs. Intense, layered and profoundly aromatic.

Palate: Powerful yet impeccably balanced with rich dark fruit, velvety tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, savoury, polished finish. Combines structure with elegance, showcasing the finesse and depth that have made Saffredi a modern Tuscan icon.

Body: Full-bodied with luxurious texture and depth.

Acidity: Medium to high, contributing lift, freshness and long ageing potential.

Cellaring Potential: Outstanding—enjoy now or cellar for 12–20+ years to reveal profound complexity and seamless integration.

Perfect Pairing: Florentine steak, braised beef short rib, venison, lamb dishes, truffle pasta and aged Pecorino Toscano.

Serving Temperature: 16–18°C; decant for 1–2 hours to fully reveal its aromatic depth and structure.
