2022 Sancerre ‘Côte de l’Épée’ Renaissance, Fleuriet Frères
About the Winery: Fleuriet Frères is a highly regarded family domaine located in the village of Menetou-Râtel, farming organically and focusing on precise, terroir-expressive Sancerre. The estate works with some of the appellation’s most characterful parcels, including the celebrated Côte de l’Épée, a steep, south-facing slope rich in flint and limestone. Their “Renaissance” cuvées highlight meticulous vineyard work, low yields and minimal-intervention winemaking, delivering Sauvignon Blanc of purity, tension and deep mineral expression.
Grape Variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Appearance: Pale lemon with green reflections and crystalline brilliance, typical of flint-rich Sancerre terroirs.
Aroma: Intensely aromatic with notes of lime zest, grapefruit, gooseberry and white peach supported by crushed flint, wet stone and delicate herbal nuances. A lifted floral tone adds finesse and precision.
Palate: Focused, vibrant and mineral-driven with crisp acidity and flavours of citrus, green apple and white stone fruit. Flinty tension and chalky structure define the mid-palate, leading to a long, pure and saline finish that reflects the Côte de l’Épée’s distinctive silex terroir.
Body: Light to medium-bodied with a sleek, refined texture and mineral tension.
Acidity: High — bright, linear and essential to the wine’s precision and longevity.
Cellaring Potential: 4–6 years; the wine gains texture, subtle smokiness and layered minerality while retaining citrus purity and tension.
Perfect Pairing: Oysters, goat cheese (especially Crottin de Chavignol), grilled fish, ceviche, sushi, asparagus, herbed salads and light poultry dishes. Its flinty minerality makes it ideal with seafood and bright, fresh flavours.
Serving Temperature: 8–10°C to highlight aromatic lift, mineral precision and acidity.
