Description
Tasting Note: A pale, light-bodied wine offering wild red-berried fruits and mineral notes, refreshing and silky with a long finish.
About the Winery: Matias Riccitelli, son of renowned winemaker Jorge Riccitelli, established his own winery in 2009 after gaining extensive experience in Argentina and worldwide. His vineyards span 50 hectares across three sites in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, aiming to express the full potential of Argentine terroir.
Grape Variety: 100% Bastardo – a dark-skinned variety originating from Jura, France (synonym for Trousseau), contributing to a light-bodied wine with red-berried fruits and mineral notes.
About Bastardo (Trousseau): Also known as Merenzao in Spain and Bastardo in Portugal, this late-ripening grape thrives in warm, well-drained sites. It yields pale to medium-colored reds with vibrant acidity, fine tannins, and aromas of wild strawberry, cranberry, red cherry, peppery spice, and subtle florals, often with earthy, graphite-like minerality. Historically important in France’s Jura and in Portugal (Douro/Port, Dão, Bairrada), it can reach moderate alcohol while remaining fresh and perfumed.
Appearance: Pale ruby to light garnet, bright and translucent.
Aroma: Wild red-berried fruits and mineral notes complemented by spicy, floral hues.
Palate: Refreshing and silky, with good structure and a long finish, showcasing red-berried fruits and spicy, floral notes.
Body: Light – This wine is described as light-bodied, offering an elegant and refreshing experience without being heavy.
Acidity: Medium – The nightly cooling-off in the vineyard extends the ripening period, allowing grapes to develop rich varietal characteristics while retaining balancing acidity, contributing to the wine's refreshing quality.
Cellaring Potential: Short (2–5 yrs) – Aged for eight months in French oak, this wine is ready to drink now but can benefit from short-term cellaring to further integrate its flavors.
Perfect Pairing: Poultry, Tapas, Cheese
Serving Temperature: 15–16°C for reds
