Description
How it tastes
Ripe and full-bodied with red and black fruit, chocolate and a hint of spice, layered and supple with Morello cherry on a velvety finish. Grenache 60%, Syrah 25%, Mourvèdre 15%.
The producer
Wine has been made on this estate since 1264, when the family arrived from Italy to serve the pope at Avignon — the three hats on the label are two bishops and a pope among their forebears. The Grenache comes from old vines on high alluvial terraces.
Food and drinking
Good with poultry & pork, red meat and cheese. Drinking well now, with a decade or more ahead of it. Serve at 16–18°C.
