Description
Crisp and aromatic, with notes of citrus and yellow peach layered with floral and sage nuances ‚¬” a refreshing and elegant coastal Vermentino from Tuscany.
About the Winery: Founded in 1978 by Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani, Banfi represents the perfect union of innovation and heritage. In partnership with winemaker Ezio Rivella, the Marianis transformed Montalcino into a world-class viticultural area, producing benchmark wines that define modern Tuscan excellence. The family later expanded northward, acquiring the historic Bruzzone estate in Piedmont, strengthening Banfiof diverse and prestigious portfolio. Banfiof commitment to sustainability is demonstrated through their *Equalitas* certification, achieved both at organisational and product level. Their *Brunello di Montalcino Poggio all‚¬™Oro 2016* was the first Brunello to receive this certification ‚¬” a testament to Banfiof leadership in environmental responsibility and quality innovation.
Vintage: The 2023 growing season was mild, with slightly warmer-than-average winter temperatures and limited rainfall from January to April. Abundant rain in May and June replenished the vines before a warm, breezy summer. High September winds refreshed the vineyards ahead of harvest on 11 September, ensuring pristine fruit and excellent aromatic concentration.
Vineyard: Sourced from Banfiof coastal vineyards on Tuscanyof western edge, where sandy soils and maritime breezes impart freshness and salinity. Additional fruit from Montalcino vineyards, rich in clay and pebbles, adds body and structure. The vines are trained to a top-wire cordon system, optimising sun exposure and air circulation for healthy, flavourful grapes.
Winemaking: Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks (13‚15°C) to preserve purity and aromatics. The wine was aged on fine lees for three months to build texture and complexity, while malolactic fermentation was deliberately avoided to retain vibrancy and crispness.
Appearance: Bright straw yellow with subtle green reflections.
Aroma: Intense citrus and yellow peach aromas complemented by floral and sage notes, evoking Mediterranean freshness.
Palate: Fresh, balanced, and persistent, displaying citrus and stone fruit flavours underscored by saline minerality and lively acidity. The palate shows both fruit purity and coastal elegance.
Body: Medium-bodied with supple texture and refreshing lift.
Acidity: Bright and lively, balancing the fruit with crisp precision.
Cellaring Potential: Drink now through 2026 for peak freshness, or cellar up to 4 years to develop subtle almond and honeyed nuances.
Perfect Pairing: Excellent with seafood linguine, grilled prawns, Tuscan bean salad, or lemon-roasted chicken.
Serving Temperature: Serve chilled at 9‚10°C to emphasise fruit and freshness.
