About the Winery: Established in 1860, Tahbilk is an historic family-owned winery in the Nagambie Lakes region of Central Victoria, renowned for its rare aged Marsanne. The estate is carbon neutral and was awarded 'Winery of the Year' by James Halliday in 2016.
Grape Variety: 100% Marsanne – offers grapefruit zest, citrus floral aromas, and a mineral palate.
Appearance: Pale straw with green hues; bright and clear in the glass with light legs.
Aroma: Grapefruit zest and citrus floral aromas, with lemon blossom, honeysuckle, and subtle almond meal.
Palate: Decidedly lively, mineral palate with pear, Granny Smith apple and citrus fruits, hints of fennel/anise, white peach, and wet stone.
Body: Medium - The wine is made reductively to preserve fresh, fruity character, resulting in a balanced and crisp profile.
Acidity: High - The wine did not undergo malolactic conversion to preserve its crisp character.
Cellaring Potential: Short (2–5 yrs) - Best enjoyed young to appreciate its fresh, crisp character, though Marsanne can age well.
Perfect Pairing: Seafood (oysters, scallops, grilled prawns), poultry (roast chicken, lemon herb turkey), and soft cheeses (goat cheese, young brie).
