About the Winery: Founded in 1991 by Richard Bunton, Rockburn began as a small vineyard project that grew into one of Central Otagoof most celebrated wineries. Under the direction of winemaker Malcolm Rees-Francis‚¬”formerly of Felton Road‚¬”Rockburn has gained international acclaim for its refined and expressive Pinot Noirs. The estateof vineyards are sustainably cultivated and certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand. Drawing inspiration from the rugged, rock-strewn terrain that defines the region, Rockburn crafts wines that embody the purity, intensity and balance of Central Otagoof unique terroir.
Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir
Appearance: Vibrant ruby red with garnet reflections and polished clarity.
Aroma: Expressive bouquet of plum and black cherry, with underlying mocha, spice and subtle oak notes.
Palate: Ripe and velvety, with rich fruit flavours balanced by fine tannins and refreshing acidity. Grapes from Parkburn (85%) and Gibbston (15%) were cool macerated for up to four days, fermented in seven-tonne open fermenters with daily plunging, and macerated post-fermentation for 10‚14 days. Aged ten months in French oak (33% new) for texture, complexity and elegance.
Body: Medium-Full ‚ supple, rounded and finely textured.
Acidity: Medium ‚ fresh and balanced, complementing the wineof richness and lift.
Cellaring Potential: Drink now for its youthful vibrancy or cellar to 2030 for greater complexity and savoury depth.
Perfect Pairing: Roast duck, seared venison, or mushroom and thyme risotto with truffle oil.
