Description
A pale coloured, dry and fresh rosé with an aromatic bouquet of rose petals and raspberry complemented by mineral and fennel tones with just a hint of liquorice.
About the Winery: Alpha Estate is located in Amyndeo, North West Greece. It is the brainchild of two visionaries, second generation vine grower Makis Mavridis and Bordeaux trained wine maker Angelos Iatrides. Angelos is one of the most talented winemakers working in Europe. This pristine estate in the cool highlands of Western Macedonia comprises 220 hectares of privately owned single block vineyards, which are certified sustainable, and employs the most up-to-date vineyard techniques and winemaking technology to produce world class wines from French and indigenous Greek varietals.
Grape Variety: 100% Xinomavro (ksee-NO-mav-ro) - a native variety found in Northern Greece, offering aromatic complexity and structure. Hallmarks include naturally high acidity, fine tannic grip (even in rosé), and savory nuance (wild strawberry, cherry, sun-dried tomato, olive/herbal notes). It thrives in Amyndeo’s high-altitude, sandy soils, yielding pale-coloured wines with freshness, precision, and age-worthy potential.
Appearance: A pale and lively rosé.
Aroma: Aromatic bouquet of rose petals and raspberry complemented by mineral and fennel tones with just a hint of liquorice, reflecting Xinomavro’s floral-savoury profile.
Palate: Crisp with a creamy, fruity palate through to a long finish; Xinomavro lends tension, subtle tannin, and a savory edge.
Body: Medium - The wine was maintained 'sur lie' for three months with regular stirring to impart texture and complexity.
Acidity: High - The crispness contributes to the wine's freshness and lively character.
Cellaring Potential: Short (2–5 yrs) - Best enjoyed in its youth to appreciate its fresh and aromatic qualities.
Perfect Pairing: Poultry, Seafood, Tapas; also excels with tomato-based dishes, olives, and herb-led Mediterranean plates (classic with Xinomavro’s savory notes).
Serving Temperature: 8–10°C
