Description

2024 Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc, Saint Clair Family Estate

About the Winery: Saint Clair Family Estate is one of Marlborough’s most celebrated producers, renowned for crafting intensely expressive Sauvignon Blanc from carefully identified vineyard parcels. Founded by Neal and Judy Ibbotson, the winery combines sustainable viticulture with precision winemaking to achieve benchmark quality. The Wairau Reserve is sourced from top sites in the iconic Wairau Valley, where sunshine, alluvial soils and cooling sea breezes create Sauvignon Blanc of exceptional purity, concentration and aromatic power. This cuvée represents the pinnacle of Saint Clair’s single-vineyard selections.

Grape Variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Appearance: Pale straw with silver-green hues, bright and luminous, reflecting high natural acidity and youthful vibrancy.

Aroma: Intensely aromatic with lifted notes of passionfruit, blackcurrant leaf, grapefruit, elderflower and fresh-cut herbs. Subtle flinty and saline nuances add complexity and depth, characteristic of the Wairau Valley’s coastal influence.

Palate: Vibrant, concentrated and mouth-watering with flavours of citrus, gooseberry, tropical fruit and crushed herbs. High, zesty acidity drives a long, pure finish with mineral precision and classic Marlborough energy. A benchmark expression of Sauvignon Blanc with density, focus and exceptional aromatic clarity.

Body: Light to medium-bodied with a sleek, refreshing and lively texture.

Acidity: High — crisp, zesty and essential to the wine’s precision and drive.

Cellaring Potential: Best enjoyed young within 2–3 years for maximum aromatic intensity; may develop softer herbal and mineral notes with short-term ageing.

Perfect Pairing: Fresh oysters, ceviche, goat cheese salad, sushi, grilled prawns, Thai dishes, asparagus, and crisp green vegetables. Its vibrant acidity and herbal lift make it superb with seafood and aromatic cuisine.

Serving Temperature: 8–10°C to enhance aromatic brightness and refreshing acidity.
