2024 The FMC Chenin Blanc, Ken Forrester
About the Winery: Ken Forrester, often called “Mr. Chenin,” is one of South Africa’s most influential champions of the variety. Based on the slopes of the Helderberg in Stellenbosch, the estate has earned global acclaim for its expressive, meticulously crafted Chenin Blancs. The FMC (Forrester–Meinel–Cheninn) is the flagship white wine — sourced from old, low-yielding bush vines and produced using barrel fermentation, late-harvest ripeness selection and intricate élevage. It represents the apex of Forrester’s philosophy: richness balanced by precision, concentration lifted by mineral freshness.
Grape Variety: 100% Chenin Blanc (old bush vines)
Appearance: Deep straw with bright golden reflections, showing richness and concentration typical of late-picked, old-vine Chenin Blanc.
Aroma: Highly expressive with layers of apricot, quince, ripe pear and honeycomb supported by subtle notes of orange blossom, vanilla spice, baked apple, toasted nuts and delicate minerality. Complex, opulent and beautifully defined.
Palate: Rich, concentrated and impeccably polished. Flavours of stone fruit, citrus curd and ripe orchard fruit unfold over a creamy, textured palate. Fine acidity brings lift and balance, while subtle oak adds spice, honeyed depth and silky length. The finish is long, luxurious and multi-layered, reflecting both old vines and meticulous craftsmanship.
Body: Medium to full-bodied with a sumptuous, velvety texture and excellent concentration.
Acidity: Medium — sufficient to balance the wine’s richness and support graceful ageing.
Cellaring Potential: 8–10 years; developing deeper honey, spice and savoury complexity while maintaining Chenin’s hallmark freshness and structure.
Perfect Pairing: Excellent with lobster, roast chicken, creamy seafood, rich risottos, foie gras, soft cheeses and fragrant dishes featuring spice, nuts or honeyed accents. Its opulence and balance make it versatile across luxurious cuisine.
Serving Temperature: 10–12°C to showcase aromatic intensity and layered texture.
