Description
NV CVC 88, Sierra Cantabria
About the Winery: Sierra Cantabria, owned by the renowned Eguren family, is one of Rioja’s most respected producers. Based in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, the estate is known for its precision viticulture, old-vine Tempranillo and terroir-focused winemaking. The Egurens specialise in small-parcel vinifications and meticulous ageing, crafting wines that combine purity, structure and elegance. CVC 88 is a unique multi-vintage cuvée (“Cosecha Varias Cosechas”) created from specially selected plots and aged components, showcasing depth, harmony and the winery’s signature mineral-driven style.
Grape Variety: Primarily Tempranillo with small amounts of Graciano and other local varieties (proportions vary by lot)
Appearance: Deep ruby with garnet hues, showing clarity and concentration typical of long-aged Rioja components.
Aroma: Red and black fruits—cherry, plum and blackberry—layered with cedar, tobacco leaf, sweet spice, dried herbs and subtle balsamic and mineral notes. Lifted, expressive and evolving with air.
Palate: Elegant and complex with silky tannins, balanced acidity and a refined mix of ripe fruit, savoury spice, subtle oak and earthy mineral nuances. Finishes long, harmonious and beautifully integrated thanks to the multi-vintage composition.
Body: Medium to full-bodied with polished texture and depth.
Acidity: Medium to medium-high, offering lift and freshness that balance the wine’s richness and complexity.
Cellaring Potential: Enjoy now or cellar 6–10 years; extended ageing will enhance savoury, balsamic and mineral notes while softening the tannins further.
Perfect Pairing: Roast lamb, Iberico pork, grilled meats, mushroom dishes, aged Manchego, charcuterie and hearty stews with Rioja spices.
Serving Temperature: 16–18°C; a short 20–30 minute decant enhances aromatic complexity and integration.
