About the Winery: For Umberto Cesari, producing good wine in Emilia Romagna was a family tradition. It is here that Umberto and his wife Giuliana started their company in 1965, when they bought 20 hectares of land in the hills. Their ambition was to turn Sangiovese into a great wine, reflecting the typicity of the area. The winery has continually expanded and today the estate extends over 355 hectares divided into distinct vineyards; La Casetta, Parolino, Cà Grande, Laurento, Liano, Claterna, Miravalle and Tauleto each of which provides the perfect micro-climate for the vines planted. Their estate is sustainably cultivated and certified sustainable by SQNPI. As pioneers of quality, this family-run estate wins numerous of accolades every year and has been awarded 'IWSC Italian Winemaker of the Year' four times in the last 15 years. The estate is now in the hands of Umberto's son, Gianmaria Cesari, who follows in Umberto's footsteps.

Grape Variety: Sangiovese Grosso 90%, Uva Longanesi 10% - Sangiovese Grosso (the Brunello-type clone) offers structure, firm tannins and dark fruit with notes of sour cherry, plum, leather and balsamic nuance, and is renowned for longevity due to its thicker skins and natural acidity. Uva Longanesi (also known locally as Burson) is an indigenous Romagna variety from the Bagnacavallo area; it contributes deep color, high tannins and vibrant acidity, bringing wild blackberry, blueberry, violet, liquorice and Mediterranean herb notes, while accentuating the wine’s savoury, spicy character and ageing backbone.

Appearance: Deep ruby red with good clarity.

Aroma: Expressive aromas of wild berried fruit and ripe black cherry, layered with nuances of rose petal, pungent balsam and spice.

Palate: Succulent red fruit notes are complemented by spice, pipe-tobacco and graphite, with supple tannins and a lengthy, intense finish.

Body: Full bodied, offering a rich and substantial mouthfeel.

Acidity: Medium acidity, providing balance to the rich fruit and structure.

Cellaring Potential: Long (10-20 yrs) - This wine has significant ageing potential, allowing its complex flavours to evolve and integrate further over time.

Serving Temperature: 15-16°C for reds.
