Description
How it tastes
Plush and generous, with ripe plum, black pepper, tapenade and a savoury umami note. Syrah 75%, Grenache 25%.
The producer
The Syrah and Grenache blocks run north-south at around 270 metres on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge. Jean-Claude Martin and Carolyn Martin found this cool-climate site in 2002 and have spent two decades proving what Walker Bay can do.
Food and drinking
Good with red meat, spicy dishes and cheese. Ready now, and will hold for a few years yet. Serve at 16–18°C.
