Description

A stunning and precise Syrah with perfumed floral notes and bright blueberry and blackberry fruit infused with crushed violets.

About the Winery: Californian Samantha O'Keefe has found paradise and the perfect terroir. Tucked into the foothills of a dramatic mountain range at the bottom of Africa, Lismore Estate Vineyards was born alongside her nascent family. A passionate vision, combined with vines planted at 300 metres, which are chilled by winter snow and nourished by the African summer sun, produces classic, cool climate wines which are rich, complex and lovingly hand-crafted.

Region: Greyton, Cape South Coast, South Africa

Grape Variety: 100% Syrah - an elegant, perfumed and bright grape with notes of white pepper, classic garrigue and perfumed floral notes of crushed violets.

Appearance: Deep ruby-purple core with a violet rim; moderate staining and fine, slow legs indicating concentration.

Aroma: Perfumed floral notes, bright blueberry and blackberry fruit, crushed violets, white pepper, classic garrigue.

Palate: Beautifully textured, elegant and mouth filling with superb length. Light and graceful yet structured, a crystal clear expression of extreme cool climate Syrah.

Body: Full - Beautifully textured, elegant and mouth filling with superb length, rich and complex.

Tannins: Medium-plus, fine-grained and silky, providing refined structure without heaviness.

Acidity: High - The 2022 wines show striking aromatic expression, due to a generally cooler season that allowed gradual ripening and balancing acidity.

Alcohol: Moderate, in keeping with a cool-climate style (balanced and refreshing).

Winemaking: Gentle extraction to preserve perfume; a portion of whole-bunch often used for lift and pepper; maturation predominantly in older French oak to keep oak influence subtle.

Finish: Long, precise and mineral-driven with lingering violet, black pepper and blueberry notes.

Cellaring Potential: Short (2–5 yrs) - The long hang-time encourages concentrated flavours, while the cool evenings retain natural balancing acidity, resulting in a very elegant Syrah.

Perfect Pairing: Red Meat, Poultry, Cheese

Serving Temperature: 15–16°C for reds
