Why this wine

Picpoul means lip-stinger, which tells you what the grape does. Grown beside the Etang de Thau oyster beds, and made for exactly that. Sharp, lemony and cheap.

Description

How it tastes

Fresh and floral with pear, pineapple and a hint of honey through a long, mouthwatering finish. Picked at night at 14–18°C and chilled to 6°C before settling.

The producer

The vineyard lies three kilometres from the Étang de Thau, the lagoon that cools the nights and grows the oysters this wine is made for. The Gaujal family have been here since 1744; Laurent took over in 2013.

Food and drinking

Good with seafood, salads and poultry & pork. Ready now, and will hold for a few years yet. Serve at 8–10°C.
